Any questions? We know the answers!
What exactly is Vivité?
Vivité is a company founded in Berlin in 2008 by Dr Eckhard Löhde. It is absolutely independent of any healthcare institute, insurance company or business. Two executive directors, Dr Eckhard Löhde and Mr Andreas Riedel, head up a team of consulting physicians and paramedics charged with office and data processing tasks.
What is the underlying concept of the Health File?
Each of us is in contact with a general practitioner and has already been vaccinated, x-rayed and perhaps operated on. Each of us has taken medicines, and possibly developed allergies or chronic diseases. One question arises anytime we move, travel or go to hospital: how can the new doctor know our medical history rapidly and easily? Immediate access to relevant medical data would make various tests superfluous and could prevent diagnostic errors. Moreover, the doctor could make the right decision without losing any time, which is often crucial in case of emergency.
Who needs a Health File?
Anyone who feels responsible for his or her health and wants to leave nothing to chance.
What data does the Health File contain?
It contains all data that could be relevant for treatment (current medications, vaccinations, previous findings, risk factors such as diabetes, allergies and cardiovascular disorders), as well as various data of general interest (identity, social security number, important telephone numbers including those of family members). The Health Document can also include your living will and organ donor card. Moreover, a special directory that only you can access (personal safe) is available for very personal data.
Who decides on the data to be stored?
A Vivité doctor decides, upon your approval, which data should be stored in your Health Document and updated in the future. On the basis of the data made available to him, the doctor edits your personal medical profile. However, it is up to you to decide which additional data (living will, organ donor card, telephone numbers of family members, etc.) should be added to your Health Document.
How does the Vivité doctor receive my medical data?
You or your general practitioner can send the data per mail, fax or e-mail. On request, we can help you to obtain important documents from hospitals (operative reports, etc.). During the telephone consultation, the Vivité doctor may advise you to have additional tests performed to optimise your medical profile.
Can a foreign doctor understand the information in the Health File?
Yes, because your Health File is edited according to international standards and translated into several languages, so that any doctor in any country can understand it and be precisely informed on your medical history.
What if the foreign doctor has no Internet access?
The simplest solution is to upload your Health File to your tablet computer or smartphone using the Vivité app. You could also print the file and take the paper version with you. The third solution is to call us: we can fax the data to the doctor or directly answer his questions on the telephone.
Who can access my medical data?
Basically, only you and the Vivité doctors can access your Health File. However, you may grant temporary or permanent access rights to other persons, for example when you need to consult a specialist or go to hospital. Only you may cancel or prolong these access rights. Please note that nobody except you — not even the Vivité doctors — may access the data stored in your virtual safe.
What exactly occurs in case of emergency?
If you choose the Emergency option, you should always carry your Vivité card with you. (You receive it shortly after you register for the service.) In an emergency (loss of consciousness, for example), the doctor who treats you will find instructions for opening your Health File using your Vivité card. Upon entering his ID, the doctor has access to your medical data over the Internet for a period of three hours. Vivité stores the doctor’s ID and checks that the need to access your data is justifiable.
Please note that we will send you stickers to affix on your ID card and driving licence so that emergency staff know immediately that all of your medical data are stored in your personal Health File and accessible using your Vivité card.
Can my general practitioner edit the Health Document?
Only a certified Vivité doctor can edit and update your Health Document. The certification is required before we can guarantee the security, quality and international validity of the document. Nonetheless, you can enter certain data (medications, blood pressure, family members, living will), alone or with the help of your general practitioner. And it is clear that your practitioner remains your main contact person for all matters related to your health.
Doesn’t my social security card offer similar services?
In some countries, conventional social security cards are being replaced with microchip cards. These cards, however, offer just a very limited range of services as they include only very little information (name, address, social security number). This is mainly due to their limited storage capacity and because a number of issues regarding the administration of these cards have yet to be addressed: who should enter and update the data? How do you know what data are stored? How can data piracy be avoided? What if you lose your card? And: how to use the card in foreign countries when adequate reading devices are not available?
How much does the Health File cost?
In the first year, the costs for editing and updating Vivité’s Health File amount to €1250. In the following years, we charge €250 a year and you benefit from the following services: continuous file updates, upload of any new medical documents (findings, X-rays, etc.) and answering of any questions by a Vivité doctor.
